This is a very rare size antique Milliner's Model circa 1830s. She was made in Germany although her maker is unknown. She has a papier mache shoulder head with a muslin cloth body with wooden arms and legs. Her shoes are painted gray boots.  Her black hairstyle is based on that worn by Queen Victoria at her inauguration which took place on June 21, 1837. After her inauguration it was chic to wear ones hair like Queen Victoria. The front of the hair is plaited at the sides and wound around the ears to the back hair knot which was also plaited or wound. The entire style was just gracious and charming. She has painted brows, pupiless eyes and a full closed mouth.  
She is wearing antique cotton pantaloons as well as three antique half petticoats. Her antique red dress has a pleated  bodice, full sleeves and a full skirt. The back of her dress is made to close with four hook and eye but only two are present.    

Condition: Wonderful. When you think of a doll that is 177 years old she is great! At this age we must be forgiving of her very few imperfections. Her left leg does have some paint loss along the front. Please see picture. Her wooden arms are good but her upper cloth arms have been replaced at some time in her life. Her shoulder plate does have some cracks and wear. Please see pictures for condition. Her hair has some paint scuffs as well as her nose. Her overall face color is still vivid and bright. I did black light her and did not pick up any repaint but when I looked at her under a loop I could see where she was lightly darkened over her original brow and eye paint. I have no idea how far back this was done. I'd guess a long, long time ago as that is also faded. Her body has had minimal spot repair. Her dress does have normal wear. I did find a few small age spots hidden within the folds of her skirt as well as two holes, again hidden in the folds of her skirt. Slight fading.      

This is a very rare and hard to find size Milliner Model in tip top shape. If you love papier mache dolls this is your time to get a quality doll.
