Antique Cuno & Otto Character Doll Circa 1920s

This doll is from my own collection. I've had her for many years and attributed her to Cuno & Otto. She stands 24" tall with a bisque socket head on a composition ball jointed body. As you can clearly see by the pictures her head is stamped with the Gans & Seyfarth symbol and the number 120.

She has feathered brows, open/close eyes, painted upper and lower lashes with a few real lashes left. She has an open mouth showing her teeth. I just love her dimple! Take a moment to really look at the molding on her face. I love how her eyes are so sculpted and her nose is thin. She is a great rare find! Her complexion is slightly pale with just the right amount of cheek blush to give her a healthy glow. Her mohair wig is a replacement. She is a great example of the early Character dolls!      

She is wearing antique pantaloons and half petticoat. Her handmade 3 piece beige antique wool nautical jumper is trimmed in blue velvet closing in back with hook and thread loops. She has an antique chemise under her jumper that is used as a blouse. Her over coat has four buttons 2 faux with two used to close the jacket. Her hat matches her outfit. Her socks are early and her antique German leather shoes have a horseshoe stamp on the bottom.

Condition: Very good to excellent! Her bisque head is perfect without any chips, cracks or repairs of any kind. Her body is great and still retains the original patina.

This doll is a rare beauty! I have been to more auctions then I care to remember and have never seen any other doll like this one. If your looking for someone different, this doll is the one for you! She was one of the first Character dolls made during that time. In Coleman's Second Doll Encyclopedia on page 453 is a picture of the advertisement that Otto Gans ran in the November 1927 Playthings. You will see this little girl in the advertisement.
